Anniversary edition and just being me

The last week or so has scene my tumblrs turn various markers or anniversaries such as the original TSB which marked it's 3,000th post  a few days ago where I talked a bit about how I came to set up that tumblr and how I was on the inside when I first started writing it.

In many respects through the brief time at asb.org and by joining in with the asb/alb community examining, talking and comparing pasts I moved on from an ailing state of conflictedness to one where I knew exactly where I was and where I belong.

I'm very happy to be eternal schoolboy and wolf cub comfortable in my own male identity with no need to add anything to qualify it.

I've been watching the Dengineer's and Art Ninja on CBBC which are about den building and art for boys and girls instead, getting inspired, enjoying your time.

I also read a books and so become immersed in a story set in an imaginary world you can pause and resume in which is pretty cool although as my ankle is recovering from an injury I should be able to resume kicking me football about which may take something off Wolves not making the finals.

Yesterday's Wolves vs Liverpool FC match might of seen us getting a better result losing two goals to one but there was nothing to be ashamed of when it came to the on field performances unlike Man U's against Burnley earlier in the week which does pose question marks as to what is going wrong in that teams squad.

Meanwhile yesterday's Blue Peter was a Fan Club Take Over which basically means the show is put around the fan's suggestions so we had a Pony on set, Pet Therapy dogs which should Henry alas wasn't cut out for that role visiting children in hospital, gymnastics and the Stockport, Cheshire group The Blossoms performing live in the studio.

I've always loved that show from a kid so that's been a staple of me and my life.

Of course being Friday and at 6 o'clock it'll be time for Crackerjack which last week as absolutely brilliant - you could definitely crush a grape - so I'll be watching that later on today.

Culture wars on Tumblr

Sometimes between what might be a planned post, something unexpected happens  that changes matters.
I do blog about Scouting for personal reasons and on Tumblr had followed a number of blogs connected with it but had noticed a number seemed to be disappearing.

One I loved by by a user who went under the username Redneckerchief who as far as I was aware was an American who blog about youth movements around the world both from the past and the present day.
He looked at some people like me had political and moral issues without political endorsement such as The Young Pioneers in what was the Soviet Union connected with the Communist Party and then things such as Scouting such as Boy Scouts of America (B.S.A.), GirlScouting and their British parents the Scout Association and Girlguilding UK, posting about and images of members engaged learning useful skills and building up good knowledge that would help the become useful, reliable young people, an asset to their communities.

The username came from the fact all these groups used the neckerchief as a symbol of belonging and all of his posts and comments were very much safe for work, respectful of the young people themselves and not in violation of Tumblr's terms and conditions.
Thus it was a surprise to me to see his account wiped out on Friday when I went to  back up my Scouting Tumblr to blogger which sadly is a must given the arbitrary nature of these things.
The sad thing is they take little action against people who hold despicable material such as child pr0n and yet blogs that are about childhood and often positive about things like boys education, traditional school dress and scouting just get axed.
There are times when I wonder if that sites ultra liberal bias such as summing everyone is a social justice activist fighting for 76 genders, putting gay and transgendered, people on pedestal where being so trumps anything else they do (or have done) supporting extreme climate change demonstrators while allowing anti male posts and memes to be posted has something to do with it.
Are things associated more with traditional social models and gender roles something Tumblr and the Liberals want shut down or at least neutered to comply with the second wave of feminism with its issues with men and stay at home Mums?

Remembrance Day

This week gone marked the 100th anniversary of the end of World War One with the signing of the Armistice and the order to cease all operations on the Eleventh Hour of the Eleventh Day of 1918.
This was marked here in Great Britain by special Remembrance Sunday services in the capitals of the 'home countries' of the United Kingdom and in towns and cities across the land.
I have been directly involved in regular remembrance day services laying on wreaths as a member of an organization and those encounters lead to me being sat by leaders from scouting and girl guiding and members from cubs, brownies, scouts and guides as we waited to file out to lay them wreaths in order.
Like all of us members do wear their own poppy  on the uniform and usually afterward we all would place them around the cenotaph to show our respect to those who gave their  lives for our freedoms.
Their being there is also an indication of how service in scouting helps prepare young people for playing an active part in their communities.

Getting that cubby feeling

This last week has been interesting with the usual mix of a few decades past and the current intermingled as the post on the main blog on Friday will show with found memories of original childhood experienced in my second as that child in an adult body.
It has also been an interesting one for being out exploring nature, watching, feeling and hearing it intently.
I have observed the habits of Squirrels, watched on a daily basis the changes in the hue and colour of the leaves on all our local trees and a good many insects.
Indeed actually on Saturday, I observed at close quarters hundreds of Ladybirds out in the fall sun that must of emerged.
An example of the Harlequin Ladybird I saw is this one which I took a picture of while a wasp seemed to take an interest in my hat!
Wild berries were also out too although normally it is a little late in the season to see them.
While I can never be invested into the cubs nor actually be awarded the badges, this week I feel the sense of being a cub scout in spirit learning more his woodcraft  and scouting skills such as observation while having fun.
The very things that are passported into the remainder of your life after that stage.

Raising an issue

Back in the day there was one organization that in effect I wasn't given the chance to join  because of the closed attitudes of my parents that continues to niggle at me and that was I was never afford the chance to join the Scouting movement unlike most of my peers because they didn't think Scouting could provide the assistance I might need although I was getting along in mainstream activities like games and that in Junior school even if boys did fasten my football boot laces for me and that.
Because they didn't think it could lead to a mindset that regarded even asking for as an imposition although I am sure many a cub scout leader of that era would of found a way of doing it informally even say 'buddying up' with another boy rather than paid adult assistants.
The consequences for me were increased isolation socially from the activities of my schoolboy peers, the development of feelings on my part I could never do what regular non-disabled boys could and the lack of direction in channeling my innate boyhood in a useful and maturing way by real mentoring by adult males.
That discounts the practical skills I could of learnt which all added to the deficit of 'life skills' I left school with and very low esteem.
I'd honestly love to have the chance to re do this properly cos while it would be hard for me I think it would do me the world of good.
