Please come this way, Joe

We are moving towards the great six weeks off we remember so well from our school days this does come into our world as adult  children as surprising we find they no longer resemble actual school children for that whole period.
Even if that uniform is a bit more up scale than many, one thing you can sure of is you won't see boys (or girl) about wearing them this summer.

This does have the knock on effect of making those of us who do still wear them rather stick out apart from posing the question "If we're still in that childhood, why are we still in our unforms now?"

Personally I feel at this time we're best staying in sync with them and wearing more contempary play clothes, t shorts and cargo/sports shorts and short socks while out unless we're going anywhere where "sunday best" or a retro school look is expressly called for.

It does mirror the reality - we didn't wear school uniform during the hols - and we are more likely to blend in in our own communities enjoying being who we are at this time of year.

Summer Hols

There's really little point looking for me this week in all the usual places as I'm not there as this warm week I am away in the Lake District on ones hols of sorts.

Hols in the past tended to be pretty much family affairs, even the odd time with grand parents when I'd wear leisure shorts as short as and the same sort of cut as these most of the time.

You might say length was't really a thing with me but breathability and feeling the fresh air all around me!

They will be games like rounders, makes, treasure hunts and that, more like a summer camp for children and I'll be dressed as theboy I am which works a treat.

I'll have my comics with me, the way it always used to be to share with others.

Have fun this week and I'll be back next week....

Recalling the summer outdoor play 2020

Way back in September 2017 almost to the day on the other blog, I wrote a little about what the summer hols felt like as that boy, off from school for around 6 to 8 weeks where we'd be let loose for a period before returning to school.

That for most of us meant moving up a form or year group in September if not transfer to another school such as a high school so you could say that ritual was a pretty important one in our lives.
That was our time to explore our surroundings with mates, discover new places and things and play for hours or at least until our Mum's called us in for tea.

It was also the time that they, because in our era the best we got was a say, put us in t shirts and games shorts in part cos it was easier for them to wash and also because they recognized we needed to get as much sunlight on our bodies regulated by applications of suncream on our bodies to be healthy.

This for me it was different because I spent my time taken back in time to that routine and what is more I had shorts that were much shorter than any I had worn since then on just like I did then being new old stock 80's shorts.

I felt very different because while I always wore shorts they had tended to be the baggy Bermuda sort when not tailored school type ones.

I felt a lot healthier for being out in them getting my thigh's downwards well tanned  rather than looking very white and having those adventures again made me feel very much that boy all over again.

I really don't need longs or long shorts to be me.

Summertime 2016

A few weeks in the Summer, that period where on the last day of school you'd be feeling quite elated for being free of double maths period and the cross country in all weathers for a while and yet a couple of weeks on you're bored.

It's almost as though you cannot cope without that routine, knowing exactly where and what you'd be doing at any one point in time.

Holidays when I was younger had more of a routine planned into them by parents or other bodies such as schools just to get around of this.

It wouldn't be summer without some consideration of summer attire which for boys like me means more t shirts and casual shorts as in beach or sports types as like most boys as much as I like uniform, just breaking out of it for periods is great.

Boys like me belong in and wear Speedo type swimming trunks in and around the water, tight fitting and making us look rugged and, heck more attractive even compared with the swim shorts we used to wear.

Time for a ninty-nine me thinks...
